Tiger Nuts (Chufa Nuts)
Tiger Nuts (Chufa Nuts) were one of the first
domesticated crops and Tiger Nuts have even been found stored in the tombs of
the ancient Egyptian pharaohs. The Tiger Nut is a member of the sedge family it
is actually a herb and has a sweet nutty taste slightly reminiscent of almonds
growing in the ground much like peanuts. The Tiger Nut has many names; Yellow
nut grass, earth almond, rush nut, and the Florida almond. in Spain, where it
gets the name chufa the tiger nut is used to make a delicious drink.
Tiger Nuts are high in protein, calcium, iron, thiamine, and phosphorus. Perfect
as a treat and a fantastic Carp Bait for fishing so I am told. Our Tiger Nuts
